Quick Father's Day Mini Book

I made this a couple days before Father's Day on a whim. Strapped for time I just bought Mr. 246 some things I knew he wanted. (Erm....more Skylanders) I had to work Father's Day Weekend and the couple days before it so I knew I wouldn't quite have time to do anything super nice for him. On my last day off, however, I got struck by the intense urge to make him a mini book. Nothing super fancy, just a cute little keepsake.

The super quick mish-mash throw-it-together process:
  • While Luna was still up I super quickly cut up some 4x4 scraps of card stock and had Luna decorate one side with stickers.
  • I quickly looked through pictures and printed them out. On regular paper. Didn't feel like fiddling with photo paper and I was out of white cardstock. (Plus I had to get them printed before naptime - the printer is in Luna's room.)
  • Added pictures to each of the pages and the front.
  • Looked through random scrapbooking scraps and added embellishments. I wasn't taking much time on this so I'll admit - I didn't use any of the "good stuff." The goal was to get it done in a little under an hour not make some fancy, elaborate professional looking scrapbook. Used: Random 3x4 PL cards/frames, washi tape, fine tip Sharpies.
  • Punched holes in the pages, hooked them together...
  • BOOM! Done! No fuss, no muss.

Here's a look at all the pages/what's inside:
(P.S. Sorry for the random picture sizing....I wanted them big enough to see then I started having sizing issues then I gave up. It happens.)

I did manage a couple spare moments with Luna in the days leading up to Father's Day so there are a couple random pages thrown in. Yes, even the embarrsingly quick and not very good pictures of  cats and "dog" Luna wanted me to draw when we were coloring with markers.

The main purpose of this book wasn't perfection. It was making something with Luna that she could give to her Daddy. And I'll have you know....she is obsessed with her "Daddy Book!" It was the first thing she asked for yesterday morning. "Daddy book! Daddy book!" She loves looking through it and picking out all the pictures of her and daddy. Mr. 246 likes it pretty well too.  ;)

Whenever I see mini books online I think they are just fabulous but I always get such an urge to touch them, to hold them. They're an awesome size and there's all sorts of bits of paper and decoration peeking out and I was pretty pleased just holding this little one.

I almost didn't share this because it's so thrown together but I aim to be a realistic scrapper and memory keeper. Not everything has to be picture perfect or fabulous. Years from now you'll just be glad you have it because they're your memories. Don't let everyone's perfect looking projects stop you from making your own. [end random pep talk tangent]

Thanks for looking!

Weekly Goals {Week 26}

Week 26?! You know what that means? It means this year is half over. I have mixed feelings about this. I'm happy because it's closer to fall and Christmastime and warm coziness and crocheting. I'm also a little anxious because -- "Holy crap! Didn't this year just start not too long ago? Where is time going?" Maybe you feel the same?

I did alright this week considering I didn't feel like doing much of anything. I don't have much to say either. I'm just trying to truck along and do things the best I can. That's all we can really do, isn't it?

LAST WEEK'S GOALS: 9.5/14

FAMILY/MOTHERHOOD/MARRIAGE:
1. Plan a fun Thursday with Luna when I'm home from work. Check! Storytime, playing at the park, a nice lunch together, and a little shopping in the afternoon. :)
2. Electronics-free hour and a half each night. Erm. I suppose playing Mariokart while Luna's still awake is kind of a fail on this one.
3. Make reservations for Mr. 246's and I's first night away from Luna.We don't get to do what I originally wanted to do but we made alternate plans so I'm counting it.
4. Make lists and plan, plan, plan for Ohio trip (15 days!) so then next week I can actually get ready. Eh, fuck it. We'll wing it. Hehe.

  PERSONAL:
5. Use planner all week. Schedule and stay on top of things. I'm making the switch to my phone because it's something I always look at and take with me everywhere. We'll see how that goes. I also got Evernote. Yes, I realize it's been around forever but I never really paid attention to it until now. I think I'm going to like it!
6. Read something calming and inspirational before bed every night. If the second Game of Thrones book calms me down and helps me get ready to sleep it counts, right? My goals, my rules. I'm counting it. Lol.

HEALTH:
7. Work out x4. Zumba Tuesday - Friday. Go me! I think I'll do the same this week. I like those classes the best.
8. 9500 steps/day goal. 9138 steps/day average. Seriously? I was that close. I blame yesterday. I did lots of scrapbooking and not so much moving.
9. At least 7 hours of sleep each night. Give or take a couple minutes, yes! Most work nights I even went to bed early.
10. Track food. Hahahahano.

CRAFTING/HOBBY/INTERNET:
11. Catch up on blogs at least every other day. Yes, maybe didn't comment as much, but I read!
12. Do at least 2 more full rows on crochet blanket border. It's fiiiinnnnnished! And I took pictures today so expect a post soon!
13.  Write 2 blog posts. (This one counts!) Sometimes in life you have to do what makes you happy. And when you've only got an hour or two in the evening to actually get personal stuff done sometimes you just have to do what you feel like doing. And I didn't feel like writing blog posts. I felt like playing Mariokart and going to sleep early. So be it. (Half points!)
14. Check in/catch up for the Harry Potter Craftalong. I caught up with logging points and what not. Now I just have to post the projects I've been doing.

Weekly Goals

THIS WEEK'S GOALS:

FAMILY/MOTHERHOOD/MARRIAGE:
1. (Motherhood) Practice more patience in the evening. If I have no patience, don't be afraid to use my words and tell Mr. 246 I'm taking a break.
2. (Family) Take more pictures! I'm slacking on work days.
3. (Marriage) Get all prettied up and have a fun date night on Saturday.

PERSONAL:
4. Keep organized: input need-to-know things on my phone, get ready the night before, keep things orderly.
5. Here's a weird one - look in the mirror more often. This isn't like a weird self esteem thing. I don't not like how I look or anything...I just don't really care any more. Now that I'm older it's like I'm confident enough in myself that I don't need to make sure I look a certain way. Here's the issue with not looking in the mirror - you don't notice you have food in your teeth, or a spill on your shirt, or your hair is getting crazy, or your makeup is smearing. These are essential situations I should probably fix. Soooo....goal for this week is to give myself a good look in the mirror everytime I go to the bathroom. Lol. Yes, even at work when I'm crazy busy (and I'm lucky I even get a bathroom break.)

HEALTH:
6. Work out x4.
8. 9500 steps/day goal.
9. Eat only when hungry and only until I'm full. (This is my solution at the moment if I'm not going to buckle down and track calories.)

CRAFTING/HOBBY/INTERNET:
10. Finish secret project.
11. Catch up on blogs at least every other day.
12. Send out blanket.
13.  Write 2 blog posts. (This one counts!)
14. Submit assignments on the HP Craftalong.

I've got work for the next 3 days, then we're going out of town Saturday for our date, then next Monday it's OHIO time! Woooo! If I don't accomplish my goals this week I won't be disappointed. I'll just be happy if I manage to pack everything.

Also, I know I normally post these on Mondays and it's now Tuesday. I hope your Monday went well and the rest of your week goes well too!

Weekly Goals {Week 25}

Ahhh Monday: A fresh start, a new set of goals, a chance to start over. That's what I love about Mondays. I did surprisingly well last week. 11 out of 14 feels pretty good and I kept in a relatively good, organized mood all week. I think that helped a lot.
I read a lot before bed this past week...just for 10-15 minutes (that's all it took to make me sleepy). I read mostly from what I call my "Buddhist Library." I have about 15-20 different spiritual books, mostly Buddhism-related. I didn't get into any one book but would keep a small stack by my bed and open one at random and decided that that was the message I needed to hear and read and learn from that night. Most of the time it was. While reading I came across this quote from Henry David Thoreau (Walden) that really hit home:
"Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand; instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb nail."
I've had this quote in my mind the past couple days and I know what I need to do...but it's going to take some time to get there.

Anyways, for the sake of time-saving and simplicity...let's get to business: Weekly Goals.

LAST WEEK'S GOALS: 11/14

FAMILY/MOTHERHOOD/MARRIAGE:
1. Do a craft session with Luna. Yes! We did a sticker-fish craft pack thingy and made something special for Mr. 246 for Father's Day.
2. Keep household running, stick to new cleaning schedule, prepare for going back to work full time. Holy crap. I did this. Annnnd working on the other unit the past 2 days hasn't been too bad either.
3. Do/make a small surprise for Mr. 246 this week. (Take two since I failed last week. Oops.) Check! We made Father's Day extra special for him by making him a mini-book of him and Luna. Luna helped decorate it. It was a little rushed since I decided I wanted to make him one and had exactly half a day to accomplish it, but I did it!

  PERSONAL:
4. Use planner all week. Schedule and stay on top of things. Sure did!
5. Take breaks when Ito. Didn't feel like going to the gym one night...so I didn't. The world didn't end and I went to bed early. Success.

HEALTH:
6. Work out x4. C'mon! I can do it! Zumba x 3 and a run/walk yesterday. Check!
7. Track steps again. Aim for 9,000 a day. Average steps per day: 10,033. Wahoo!
8. At least 7 hours of sleep each night.I'm going to give myself this one. There were a couple nights I didn't actually sleep until like 15 minutes past my goal bedtime  but I've vastly improved so I'm counting it.

CRAFTING/HOBBY/INTERNET:
10. Catch up on blogs at least every other day. Check!
11. Finish watercolor project! Almost done!
12. Finish crochet blanket except for the border. Done! Well, with the blanket part. About a third done with the border then I'll be done!
13.  Write 3 blog posts. (This one counts!) Check!
14. Check in/catch up for the Harry Potter Craftalong. I really need to do this.

THIS WEEK'S GOALS:

FAMILY/MOTHERHOOD/MARRIAGE:
1. Plan a fun Thursday with Luna when I'm home from work. (Motherhood)
2. Electronics-free hour and a half each night. This means no glancing at our phones during our "spare moments." Years and years from now I know I will wish I had spent more "spare moments" focused on my family rather than checking Facebook updates or looking at Reddit. (Family)
3. Make reservations for Mr. 246's and I's first night away from Luna. Still have to double check the finances, but if they're there then I wanna go! (Marriage)
4. Make lists and plan, plan, plan for Ohio trip (15 days!) so then next week I can actually get ready.

  PERSONAL:
5. Use planner all week. Schedule and stay on top of things.
6. Read something calming and inspirational before bed every night. (I've done this for the past week and it's been awesome!)

6 Awesome Things About Today

1. This conversation at work:
Resident: Do you have a computer at home?
Me: Yes...?
Resident: When you get home go to www.pussycat.com.
Me: [What the heck?!] ...oh? What's on that site?
Resident: Me! They've got cameras hidden in the sprinklers. They're filming us right now.
2. Coming home to box sitting in my chair and finding out Mr. 246 bought me a new computer! My old laptop has been showing signs of impending death within the next couple months. I've been killing it with pictures and editing and videos and streaming. My 3 year old Black Friday Wal-Mart special wasn't gonna cut it anymore. I seriously have the best husband ever!

3. Luna can spell her name! I had Ryan helping her "sign" her name on the Father's Day cards we were sending out and he started to spell her name out loud and she finished spelling it! Mr. 246 and I looked at each other immediately and were like, "Is this really happening?! Did our child just spell her name?!" I quickly got out the camera to see if she would do it again and she did!

4. Getting sandwiches and having an impromptu picnic in the park for dinner. Luna played on the playground, we ate. Perfect weather. Delicious sandwiches. Awesomeness.

5. Only 17 days until we leave for OHIO! We're going to visit Mr. 246's family the first week and July and I am pumped! Also only 18 days until Luna turns two. I keep going between thinking, "How is she that old already?" and "She's only turning two?" It's hard to remember life before Luna. It doesn't matter I suppose. It's better with her here. :)

6. Ryan is kicking butt at grad school. I was so proud when he showed me feedback from his last paper.

I hope you're all well. I've been trying to stay positive and calm and organized in this transition back to full time. I've been reading my go-to feel good book. I'd say it's been helping. Looking at the positive. I might even jump on this #100days bandwagon soon. What's been awesome in your life lately?

Project Life Catch Up: April 14 - 28!

April 14 -26 Layout

I'm still chugging along trying to catch up to present day (again). I finished this layout last weekend and it shows April 14 -26. (Roughly week 16-17.) It's very Luna-centric because when we don't have much going on Luna's really the only thing we photograph.  Haha.

April 13-14

This page is actually the back half of my Yosemite layout from April 13th so I had a 12x6 area to fill. I decided it would be cute to highlight our sidewalk chalk art from 4/14. Let's be honest...it's pretty sweet. Haha. I hadn't done sidewalk chalk in forever and it was way too much fun. Luna was kind of into it. She kept asking me to draw turtles then decided it would be more fun to play cars outside. I, on the other hand, totally went for it.

Rainbows and Clouds

Nothing too special about the sidewalk chalk bits. I found these cute little stickers at Target that had rainbows and clouds which I decided would be perfect for my rainbow/clouds masterpiece.

I feel like these kind of stickers aren't really "in" for scrapbooking right now but I say "Pssh!" Use what you like! It's your scrapbook. I think I'd drive myself insane if I tried to make some of those pages I see. They are gorgeous but they're just not me. It's not going to be fun until you stay true to your own style.

Luna Tinkled!

As for this section...I LOVE it. Even more so because this picture was taken after Luna used the potty for the first time!!! I never really do split pocket type layouts but I loved how this turned out.
  • The "One Sweet Moment" is from one of the me & my big ideas pocket card sets, I just don't recall which one.
  • The chevron card is from Becky Higgins 5th and Frolic Core Set.
  • The "medal" was actually a pretty ugly flower embellishment that I added the "i did it!" circle on and glued some scrap ribbons on the back. It might just be my favorite part! And yes, it's on top of the pocket and not in it.
  • And the typing?! Well folks, that's on my new typewriter! More about that on a later day but if you look through my Instagram Feed you can catch a sneak peek! (And feel free to add me, I've been really enjoying IG lately.)

Ribbon Close Up

Just a close up of the awesome flower/medal thing. I'm really quite pleased at how it came together. Now for the second page...

Luna on the Swings

Isn't this page more matchy-matchy than you're used to from me? I kind of like it! Lots of purple/blue inspired by blue eyes and a purple dress.

Luna Apple Video card

I used the same purple (and yellow) washi tape on all the pictures from this "session" to kind of tie it all together. The card above is actually kind of plain but all the elements come together pretty well I think! The card is from the 5th and Frolic set and I made the QR code for the video at this website.

If you choose to scan it and watch it...be warned...it's a minute or so long video of Luna eating an apple. It was such a peaceful moment and I'm so scared that I'll forget tiny little details like how cute she is eating an enormous apple I just want to include everything!

Watch Luna Swing

More pictures from the park and another (pretty cute!) video of Luna on the swing. So cute.

Luna Swinging

Here's the last couple pictures from this portion. Washi tape is my friend. I have alot-ish. (I've seen much bigger stashes.) I just like how easy and cheap it is to add a bit of color/pattern and to "tie" groups of pictures together. My collection doubled in size when I bought the Memory Keepers Washi Tape Set. I like how it has pretty much ALL the basic colors in two different sizes/patterns so it's perfect if you like washi tape but don't have many projects where you can break out your kitty cat washi tape.

Flip Pages

And for the end little bit...a flip page! I only had a couple pictures left I wanted to include in before I did our Easter (we did it later in the month since I was working on actual Easter) and the last of the month so a flip pocket was perfect.

I already have those pictures printed out so I'm ahead of the game...just have to finish it!

Has anyone did their Easter pages yet? Leave a link because I'd love to see them and steal all your ideas before I put my layout together. ;)

Thanks for looking!

Weekly Goals {Week 24}

Alright, here's my announcement...in a couple days I'll be going back to work full time. It's hopefully temporary. My boss asked me (again) if I would work full time even though she knows I don't want to. Then she tempted me by saying, "How about just for a month? If you don't like it, you won't have to stay." I agreed, but really just thought, "Hey, if I work for a month or so I can rack up some money quick then go back to full time." After I agreed, however, I hope they won't try to pull anything on me if/when I decide to go back to part time. Oh please don't let this be the case.

Working full time makes me nutty. And miserable. It's fine if I don't want to do anything. We cut it (finacially) very close while I work part-time but it gives us a life, you know? What's the point in making all that money if all I'm doing to working to live? Work, eat, chores, sleep, repeat. There's no time for relaxing, hanging out properly, having a hobby. I'm such an introvert I need a ridiculous amount of "recharging" from the real world.

I suppose it would be different if nursing were my passion but it really isn't. One day I hope to have a career in a field I'm passionate about but this is not the time while Mr. 246 is still in grad school. I'm just grateful to have chosen a temporary career that allows me to make decent money not working all the time. (Honestly, that may have been a key factor in choosing nursing.) I'm pretty alright at my job and I love my residents and find myself more compassionate at work than others who have chosen this field but it just isn't for me.

Anyways, this post is about goals, right? I did one goal better than last week and hopefully this upcoming week I will do even better than that. Let's review:

LAST WEEK'S GOALS: 9/12

FAMILY/MOTHERHOOD/MARRIAGE:
1. Write a sentence a day for Luna all week. Check!
2. Take a nice, relaxing family trip this weekend. Even if it's somewhere small. I didn't properly plan to go do a real day trip but we did go to the zoo on Saturday!
3. Do/make a small surprise for Mr. 246 this week. He deserves it after putting up with my horrible attitude while I was sick. This was an embarrassingly easy goal and I didn't complete it. (Truthfully I forgot about it, but sadly that really shouldn't be an excuse not to do something extra special for your husband.) I was nicer this week...that should count-ish, right?

  PERSONAL:
4. Take a bubble bath. Read some books in it. Relax. No bubble bath but I did something equally relaxing...I started watching Orange is the New Black this week. Haha. Totally counting it as my relaxing activity.
5. Write up upcoming schedule for next month or so. I had a couple days of planner freakout. Nothing was how I wanted it to be and it still isn't so I sucked it up and starting using the planner I already had for the meantime. But anyway...yes - next month is planned! (I even went overboard and did a blogging schedule, cleaning schedule, and color coded a bit of things. Woo!)

HEALTH:
6. Work out x3. Starting slower in case sickness-fatigue comes back. Check!
7. Track steps again. Aim for 9,000 a day. I can do it! Not so much. Averaged 7346/day which isn't so bad with some really lazy days thrown in.
8. At least 7 hours of sleep each night. This means pre-work bedtime is 10:30pm and non-work bedtime is 1:00am. I did alright on my work nights. Not so much on my nights off. It didn't help that Luna decided she now wakes up at 7:15 instead of 9:00.

CRAFTING/HOBBY/INTERNET:
9. Catch up on blogs at least every other day. Check!
10. Finish secret freebie project. Yes! Printable Calendars for Project Life can be found here!
11. Do at least 3 rows on crochet blanket.Yes! I did MORE than 3 rows even. Not too much longer and I'll be on to the border.
12.  Write 3 blog posts. (This one counts!) Check!

I'll give you guys the heads up if it decides to go that way. I'm trying to stick to my organization to give myself a fighting chance to get everything I want to get done, done. Wish me luck! I hope we all have a good, sunny week! Happy Monday!

Project Life Calendar Printables

Hello! I know a lot of people really liked the calendar I did for the first week of April page and so did I! I'm planning on doing a calendar each month but I wanted something a bit more do-it-yourself for future months so I made my own calendar! Then I made a couple slightly different calendars to share with everyone. (Free for personal use only.) These 4x6in calendars are perfect for pocket scrapbooking but you could also use them in other ways:
  • Print them on colored/patterned paper.
  • Cover special days in washi tape to add a bit of color!
  • Write a mini snippet for each day (my favorite thing to do!).
  • Use one to make a countdown calendar in your scrapbook.
  • Use one to display a "streak" of something. Working on running? Put a sticker for each day you ran to display your accomplishments.
  • Add one to your art journal or smashbook.
  • Use one for a mini book.
  • Make one a weather calendar!

Weekly Goals {Week 23}

This past week kicked my butt. I quickly went from focusing on only the really important goals to focusing on surviving through the day/week.

Monday I got sick.
Tuesday I went to work and got sicker.
Wednesday I went to the doctors and got antibiotics. (Hello terrible sinus infection!)
Thursday was spent focusing on surviving while entertaining a child.
Friday I gave up entertaining said child at home and took her to the zoo because it seemed easier.
Saturday, Sunday, and Monday I worked.
Battled terrible fatigue all week.

But....I survived. I'm feeling much better. And today I even had some energy back! I may have fallen short on some goals this week and that's definitely okay. I have to do what I need to to stay awesome. And today I was definitely awesome.

Today was the first day I felt mostly normal and I rocked it. Worked 8 hours, picked up Luna, paid the rent, made Luna a snack while I cooked dinner. Took Luna to the gym while I did Zumba. Came home after working out for an hour, heated dinner back up, and was able to have a hot dinner on the table for Ryan who had a late meeting at work day. You win some, you lose some. Today felt like a win for sure. So glad I'm feeling better.

Anyways, let's get to goals...I've got a video game date with Mr. 246 in about half an hour. Haha.

LAST WEEK'S GOALS: 8/12
I'm being a bit lenient with this week's review. My goals, my rules. Lol.

FAMILY/MOTHERHOOD/MARRIAGE:
1. Plan and do one new activity with Luna. I took Luna to the zoo while sick and exhausted. Totally counting it. Also, MONKEYS!
2. Make dinner twice. (I'm starting smaller this week. Haha.) If by make you mean buying dinner twice...success!
3. Give Mr. 246 quality uninterrupted time to work on his classes. I did this once or twice. He finished his assignments for the week. It must have been quality enough, right?

  PERSONAL:
4. Give myself one "free" night to be lazy and do whatever. No guilt! Big success here! Try a whole week of lazy nights! Wooo! I'm actually doing quite well so far. Haha.
5. Get ready the night before for work. I did this for real and it really helped when I was in zombie mode at 5:30 am.

HEALTH:
6. Work out x4. I have to work so much I'm going to be easy on myself. Heh. I got out of bed and that felt like a work out. No? Doesn't count? Oh well.
7. Track steps again. Aim for 9,000 a day. (See...I'm aiming a bit lower this week. Whatever works, right?) I do believe my average step count for last week was 5600. Compare this to averaging around 12000 before the bleh hit me. Oh well. I had 13000 today which actually means I walked twice as much as two average days this past week. Lol. Improvement!
8. Go to bed by 10:30pm on work nights. Oh dear lord yes. It was lovely. Sleep, glorious sleep!

CRAFTING/HOBBY/INTERNET:
9. Catch up on blogs at least every other day. Yep!
10. Submit projects for HPC. Yep! And I fixed up the Gryffindor Common Room and my classrooms for the new semester that actually started yesterday. (HPC is a "Harry Potter Craftalong" on Crafster and it's pretty dang sweet. Come join us anytime!)
11. Do at least 3 rows on crochet blanket. Didn't even touch it. The only TV I watched this past week was Game of Thrones last night (AHHHH!) and I can't crochet during that show. I'm glued to the screen. Lol.
12.  Write 3 blog posts.  I wrote two. The PL one was long. I'm pretty happy even that got done.

BONUS GOALS: Very funny.

Weekly Goals

THIS WEEK'S GOALS:

FAMILY/MOTHERHOOD/MARRIAGE:
1. Write a sentence a day for Luna all week. (I use the Happiness Project Mothers Journal
which is perfect although I write in it very sporadically. I'd like the change that.)
2. Take a nice, relaxing family trip this weekend. Even if it's somewhere small.
3. Do/make a small surprise for Mr. 246 this week. He deserves it after putting up with my horrible attitude while I was sick.

  PERSONAL:
4. Take a bubble bath. Read some books in it. Relax.
5. Write up upcoming schedule for next month or so. (Things are about to get crazy. I'll update you guys soon.)

HEALTH:
6. Work out x3. Starting slower in case sickness-fatigue comes back.
7. Track steps again. Aim for 9,000 a day. I can do it!
8. At least 7 hours of sleep each night. This means pre-work bedtime is 10:30pm and non-work bedtime is 1:00am.

CRAFTING/HOBBY/INTERNET:
9. Catch up on blogs at least every other day.
10. Finish secret freebie project. (You will see soon!)
11. Do at least 3 rows on crochet blanket. (It's almost a joke at this point, but I think I'm going to work on it tonight after video game time. I want to watch the first episode of Cosmos and I think I want to crochet at the same time.)
12.  Write 3 blog posts. (This one counts!)

Woo! I know it's gonna be past midnight on the east coast by the time I post this but: Happy Monday guys! I am overflowing with good vibes today (let's hope it lasts!) and I'll send some your way for a good week! Thanks for stopping by.
