The Long Weekend

Ahhh...a long weekend. Ryan even had the luxury of a four day weekend. We had a good weekend -- very busy at some moments (finished my afghan!), very lazy at others (watched way too much tv).

As for Memorial Day: Our town does a huge Memorial Day memorial and activities every year so we visited that. The memorial itself is always sad, but all the military geared stuff always makes me proud. Up above is Ms. Luna Bean and her grandpa (my dad) -- he's a veteran from the Navy, as well as my brother. Luckily they both came home safe from their travels. It's sad to see the visuals they had up (the names on the wall, and the crosses in the field) of all those who never did come back.

For more happy things: Luna can clap! She can almost throw! And we've been eating cherries like they're going out of style. (It's cherry season!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Mean Girls (aka Poop Chip Story)

I don't talk much about work but I have a work(ish) related story today. Why do I have a picture from Mean Girls as part of the intro for this post? Because this story is about some mean girls. Mean, hateful, scum of life, thought-7th-grade-girls-were-bad-well-this-is-worse type girls. What they did is soooo hateful and mean and terrible I'm not even sure what punishment would be suitable, because I feel like even the "bad" kids wouldn't do something so terrible.

What did they do? Let me tell you....

Today, at one of my schools, a group of 7th grade girls got together and decided it would be a brilliant idea to take one of the nacho chips that were for lunch today and "dip" it in poop like it was a delicious bean dip or something. Then....they gave it to a special ed student to eat. Who, in turn, ate the poop-dip chip.

Every time I thought about what they did this afternoon it made me sick to my stomach and on the verge of tears. At no point did one of these girls think "Hey, this is a terrible idea and we're terrible people and shouldn't do this?" Were none of them strong enough to stand up to their friends? Or were they are such hateful people that the thought didn't even cross their mind.

The poor special ed student...I can just imagine the scene in my mind: the kid eats the chip and there's a bunch of people staring and laughing behind his back and he's oblivious to it all, happy as can be, eating a chip. Perhaps once he started eating it he realized it and notified someone, or maybe spit the chip out. (I'm sure more laughter and ridicule occurred if this is what happened.) I'm unsure of the details at this point. I'm sure the kid has dealt with humiliation and ridicule his whole life. I feel so bad for him. And his parents. Imagine if someone did this to your kid.

The whole execution of the plan is sickening as well. First of all, one of them had to publicly poop, I assume. I'm also doubting gloves are some sort of accessory standard for 7th grade girls, so one of them had to take their bare hand and scoop up poop...with a fucking chip. Then carry it to wherever the special ed kid was. Here again, at no point did any of them decide that they should abort this plan?

I've worked in schools for two years now. I know most of kids these days are far more ridiculous than when I was a kid, but I never, ever would have guessed that this generation is so bad to accomplish something as mean-hearted and cruel and disgusting as this. It made me lose a little hope today.

I hate ill-wishing on anyone, especially children but I hope karma is 100% real and this comes back to them.

-Ms. 246

P.S. One of my new parenting goals is to not raise the kind of girl who would give out poop chips for a good laugh. (Not that I thought I was headed down that path currently...)

Beer Brats and Books

IMG_0568

We went to the library again this afternoon. We had our last set of books to return. I love taking Luna to the library because she has such a blast. They have a whole little area that's baby friendly where she can just crawl around and play. They even have little bookshelves right there at baby level that have all their board books in them. Luna was more interested in the "bead on a wire" contraption. So much fun.

Our small town, hillbilly library even had a board book that was about having two mommies so of course I got it for her. Mr. 246 thought I was weird, but I thought that it was neat that they even had one.

Also, allow Luna to show you her dinner....her developing sense of taste is coming along quite nicely. Tonight she gladly ate steamed onions and bell peppers with a side of beer bratwurst. Oh, then she washed it down with some taco meat and a little bit of "Apples and Prunes" baby food. Stomach of steel, I'm tellin' ya...

My Funny Bean

There's something that Bean's been doing lately that I'm in love with: Someone will start laughing, then she'll start laughing too. She won't even know what's funny...she just likes to join in. She did this again tonight...

She was in her crib supposed to be going to sleep and I laughed at something then I heard her laugh in the other room. So I laughed again. So she replied with more laughter from the other room. This went on for a full minute until I decided I should stop since she was supposed to be going to sleep.

It made my heart melt a whole lot. She's such a lovely, wonderful, fun person already. I know a lot of parents say this about their children, but probably because it's true: we're so lucky to have her in our lives. :)

A Little Bit of Unfucking

I've come across a blog/site called Unfuck Your Habitat a couple months ago. It's one of the feeds I follow on my Google Reader and keeps me continually motivated to do some "unfucking" from time to time. It's a funny and snarky way of tackling your cleaning and your house. It also makes you feel okay that you don't have a Pinterest-worthy household...which I don't. (Although, once you start looking at some people's before and afters...I'm not nearly so bad.)

I even enjoy the small "unfuckings" that people submit. They motivate me to do even some small changes every once in a while. With both of us working and a very mobile baby, it's hard to do more than the minimum but occasionally I get around to it.

Here's a couple small (and I mean small changes) I've done recently. Here's a little Before and After of straightening one of the living room bookshelves...

Here's a before and after of my side of the closet that needed to get done...

None part of our apartment gets especially bad or anything, just sometimes areas done get enough loving so small changes are all it needs. Here's the toilet/shelf area of the master bathroom...(Yea...I need to get some color in this place, huh?)

BathroomBefore After

Okay, two more...these are from a good couple weeks ago. (Spring cleaning is quite a long process around here!) Unfortunately, there aren't any "Before and Afters." The kitchen usually isn't terrible since we have no choice other than to keep it clean because it's so small. Haha.

There's only three vases on the ledge in the above picture (on the ledge above the stove), the next day or so, I got more! I loved when I had all these yellow flowers. There were FIVE different types of yellow flowers at one time. I felt rich! I would stand there counting: "One, two, three, four, FIVE different yellow flowers! Ryan, look! Look how neat it is! Five different types! All yellow!" The novelty of it all didn't wear out for me at all. I miss those flowers. Haha!  Here they are in all their glory:

IMG_0435

No "before" on this one either. Just imagine lots of toothpaste spashes on the mirror, long hair from me shedding, short hair from Ryan's facial hair trimming, and all around disgustingness:

There you have it! I've unfucked a bit over the past month or so...emphasis on the word "bit." I've been enjoying life, however, and that I believe is more important than a spotless house.

Until I post again...have a lovely day!

I'm still here!

The Easter Bunny got Luna a bubble machine!

Things have been quite busy lately. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes not. Here's a very abbreviated recap of what's been going on:
  • I was sick for 3 weeks.
  • Luna was sick for a week.
  • Ryan was sick for a week.
  • Engagement photo shoot (I'll have to post some of them!)
  • We've taken care of photograpy, food, flowers, and cake/cupcakes for the wedding this past week.
  • My work has been very stressful lately.
  • Ryan's work is going wonderfully. I'm grateful he found one that makes him happy.
  • My mother has injured her shoulder so Luna is now in daycare 3 days a week. I was upset at first, but she reeeeally likes it there. There's tons of new toys and other kids to play with that are around her age. (It's an in-home daycare so there's only 1-4 little ones there at any given time.)
  • Gasp! I've done hardly crafting. I did manage to get a couple granny squares done on my afghan. At the rate I'm going, it'll be done sometime next year. I'm in a crochet mood so I'll be working on that a lot this week.
  • Ryan's been enjoying his new "Monster Hunter 3" game on the WiiU. It makes him very happy. And that makes me happy (most of the time).
  • I have a love/hate relationship with wedding planning. i just want all the vendors in place so I can concentrate on making pretty stuff! I had no idea how much stuff there was to plan. Let's hope I get it all done.
I'm going to try to post more often. Even if it's just a picture post every now and then. Thanks for stopping by!

Initiate Full-Time Wedding Planning

Hello strangers!

I'm sorry I've been so quiet lately. It's still a hard time adjusting to Mr. 246's new schedule. He's loving his new job and the child he's working with sounds like a really good kid. Lunabean is doing great. Her newest accomplishments: she waves! she says "dada"! she can almost pull herself up! I haven't been taking nearly as many pictures as I should and I definitely haven't been taking a picture a day like I'm supposed to. I've got a lot on my plate right now - wedding plans, new schedule, and I've been sick. :/

I've been in wedding planning mode to the extreme. It was really stressing me out at first, but now that we've picked a venue and a date I'm feeling much better and I'm starting to have a lot of fun with it all. The picture above is our venue...the Villa Privata. It's Italian/Tuscany style. We're getting married in the back, outside. The back has all sorts of awesomeness: canopy of trees, fountains, old stone and bricks, a wine cellar, arches, a fireplace. You just wait until you see it's awesomeness. Our date is 7.26.2013. :) I've started a wedding website if you'd like to check it out. It's definitely not finished yet so ignore some of the parts that aren't completed: http://wolfeanddunn.ourwedding.com/
Oh, and ignore the pictures as well. We're getting some engagement photos taken on St. Patrick's Day so I can make Save-The-Dates and all that good stuff. How fancy, right?

Anywhoo...just checking in. I'm on my middle-of-the-night pump (remember that whole exclusive pumping thing) and it's time to go back to bed. Hope you're all well!

-The Soon-To-Be Mrs. 246
